Private Lessons

Be part of your dog's transformation.

One-on-one training, built entirely around your dog and your goals — in your home, out in public, or virtually from anywhere.

Prefer to train virtually? See Virtual & Hybrid Training →

Does this sound familiar?

Jumping. Pulling. Growling at strangers or other dogs. Chewing, accidents in the house, knocking people over at the door.

Maybe your dog has snapped at someone. Maybe you're embarrassed or on edge every time company comes over or you're out in public. Or maybe you've got a puppy and you're picturing a dog who listens the first time, every time, and comes everywhere with you.

This is where we shine.

There isn't one kind of private lesson

Reactivity, advanced obedience, puppy foundations, nose work, trick titles, deep behavior modification — it's all in scope.

We don't run one program and hand it to every dog. Private lessons get built around the dog and the goal in front of us, whatever that turns out to be. That's exactly why the free consult matters so much — it's how we figure out what your dog actually needs before we ever build the plan, instead of fitting you into something that was designed for someone else's dog.

"We aren't just training a dog — we're shaping a character. I want to fix the core issues, not just manage the symptoms."

Every breed, one trainer

40 years means we don't specialize in just one kind of dog.

Toy breeds, working lines, giant breeds, mixes nobody can quite place — the same expertise applies. Sessions happen in person, virtually, or a hybrid of both, wherever you are, and the program is designed around your specific dog and situation, not a script.

That's why the free phone consult matters so much — we design the entire program around your needs. We'll listen to what's actually going on and recommend the program that fits best.

Choosing the right program

Three in-person paths, all built the same way underneath.

Every dog is different, so we start with a free 20-minute phone consult to understand your goals before recommending a program. All three options below include our "Trainer In Your Pocket" Marco Polo support, so help is never more than a video message away. Prefer to work together remotely, or split between virtual and in-home? See our Virtual & Hybrid Training page instead.

Not sure which one fits your dog? That's exactly what the free phone consult is for — let's talk it through.

For current clients & alumni

Day Training & Homework Sessions

Day Training — your dog comes to us for the day and goes home at night, giving steady, hands-on progress without disrupting your routine. Available to enrolled clients as an add-on.

Homework Sessions — a focused, standalone session to work through practice, troubleshoot a specific issue, or reinforce what you're already working on between regular lessons. Available to current and alumni clients.

Ask about adding either of these during your program, or as part of an alumni maintenance plan.

Not a one-and-done package

This is a coaching program — because training is a relationship, not a one-time transaction.

That means consistent sessions and continuous support through Trainer In Your Pocket, so your trainer stays involved every day, not just on lesson days.

Once you finish a program, you're not on your own. You'll have access to our alumni and maintenance plans — ongoing group classes, booster sessions, and continued Marco Polo support to keep your dog sharp for life.

What actually happens on the call

20-30 minutes, no pressure, no obligation.

1

You fill out a short form

We reach out to find a time that actually works for you, then call you directly — no waiting room, no automated system.

2

We talk through what's going on

You tell us what you're experiencing day to day. We listen for the specifics, not just the surface complaint.

3

We identify the real issue

From a trainer's perspective, we dig into what's actually underlying it — the core issue behind what you're seeing at home.

4

We map out the right plan

We talk through what would genuinely fit your dog and your goals, and figure out together whether we're the right fit.

A lot of people worry we need to actually see their dog to understand what's happening. That's a fair concern, but it's usually not the case — the details you describe are almost always enough for us to piece together what's really going on. We don't need to watch a bite happen to know what's driving it. If we ever do genuinely need eyes on your dog first, we'll tell you directly and set up an in-person session for that.

Logistics people ask about

The practical stuff

Do I need to be there during the session?

Yes — we're not just training your dog, we're coaching you on how to get the best out of them. That coaching only works if you're part of it.

Does the whole family need to be there?

It depends on your family. It can genuinely help — anyone who wants to interact well with the dog benefits from being there, and it keeps everyone on the same page. For some families it can also just be a lot in the room at once. We'll figure out together what makes sense for yours.

What if I don't have time for homework some weeks?

The dog still needs those repetitions to actually make progress, so we work hard to clear as many obstacles to that as we can — giving you enough time between sessions, clear written homework sheets and checklists to keep it simple, and even prizes for clients who complete it all. And for the weeks it's genuinely not possible, current clients can book a homework session where we just work the dog directly — no coaching component that week, just hands-on progress while life is busy.

Ready to start?

It starts with a free 20-30 minute phone consult.

No obligation, no pressure — just a real conversation about your dog. We'll figure out exactly what's going on and recommend the program that fits.
